Lesson 243 WHEN TEMPTED TO EXPLODE! (Proverbs: "The Get Smart Book")
By Frank Eiklor and the Shalom Team

"The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression." Proverbs 19:11

“The Get Smart book” of Proverbs often seems to repeat certain subjects. God is not being redundant in this repetition but revealing to us areas of life requiring constant vigilance. Life affords many opportunities to erupt in anger. But look back. See how those eruptions caused the red-hot lava of anger to sear your soul and soil your relationships?

It takes 1) the love of God and 2) the power of God to have the common sense to restrain our anger. Love for God allows me to see how He chose to restrain His anger against me and instead conquered me with His love. And the power of the Holy Spirit affords me the strength to control my temper and overlook the offense of another (one of His fruits now planted within us is temperance, or self-control).

Going God's route when tempted to anger by exuding Him rather than exploding "me" brings its own rewards. Joseph Kudar was a successful attorney in Hungary before forced to flee from the Soviet takeover in 1956.

He came to the U.S. with no funds or friends. Kudar spoke several languages so he tried for a job with an import—export company. His letter received the vindictive reply that such a company would never hire a man who couldn't even write proper English. Kudar resisted the temptation to answer rudeness in kind (the arrogant person's letter was itself full of grammatical errors).

He remembered the scripture: "A soft answer turneth away wrath" and wrote about his situation, thanking the person for pointing out his need for further study. Two days later he received a phone call and a job. Joseph Kudar later rose to become CEO and Vice President of the company!

My prayer: “My Father, Your love covered the multitude of my sins and now You want that love placed within me to cover the sins of others. Strengthen me for those moments and help me not to fail You.”

"Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (I Corinthians 11:1)

Our Father in heaven recreates us to share the tears of others. As we wipe their tears, God wipes ours. As we meet the needs of others, the Lord meets ours.
It alone is that strong tower that God has given to His saints.
